R.I.P LOU.

As I'm sure you are all more than aware Lou Reed passed away yesterday, as a recording artist he was responsible for some of the best and contrarily the worse music of the last 40 plus years. Undeniably his body of work at the creative helm of the velvet underground remains one of the most influential and desirable back catalogues of all time. At his creative peak all manner of already established super stars clamored to hold court with him, almost hoping to soak up his cool simply by proxy. Its a credit to his kudos that his image and almost self parody of a persona survived even his best attempts to undermine it.
"The Velvet Underground's first album only sold a few thousand copies, but everyone who bought one formed a band."
Over the years this quote may of passed from fact into the category of urban legend, yet still it remains worth taking a moment to think about the lasting influence Lou and his counterparts did have on contemporary music. At his best he was peerless, at his worse he was priceless, for better for worse he was always Lou reed.
